TheHeading Attitude Reference Systems(HARS) is a gyro-platform navigation system that served asthe initial, primary navigation system of the A-10A. As the A-10A evolved into later versions, EGI wasadded and HARS has become a back-up system to the Inertial Navigation System (INS) when the EGIis inoperative. When the INS of the EGI is not available, HARS is selected automatically on theNavigation Mode Select Panel. You can also select it manually when EGI is working, but there wouldbe no good reason to do so. As a backup system, HARS can provide good heading and attitudeinformation, but it can become inaccurate with hard maneuvering or if taken out of Slave to compassmode. It also cannot provide a TVV on the HUD
